Killer Within by Jeff Gunhus Review

About Killer Within:

Arnie Milhouse is a murderer. A millionaire with dozens of kills in his past and no one the wiser. But when his name surfaces in connection with the death of a D.C. call girl, Arnie knows it’s only a matter of time before the FBI puts the pieces together. As he makes plans to disappear and leave his life in Annapolis behind forever, he meets a beautiful, mysterious woman who takes an interest in him. The perfect final victim. He can’t believe his luck.

Only luck has nothing to do with it.

Allison McNeil has returned to Annapolis, a city that she promised herself she would never come back to, not while the cruel memories of her time at the United States Naval Academy still haunt her. But she’s willing to do just about anything to get close to Arnie, even if it means having to face down the demons of her past. Her plans work and soon she and Arnie find themselves locked in a dangerous dance of seduction and betrayal. But Arnie isn’t the only one who carries a secret and the dark truth about Allison McNeil makes a final confrontation between them inevitable. Neither of them know it, but they're on a collision course that only one of them will survive.

The author, Jeff Gunhus, weaves a suspenseful story that kept me guessing from beginning to end. The characters were likable (even Arnie, whom I felt sorry for), identifiable and believable. Reading the story, I knew there was so much more, and even when alluding to the future, the store wasn't predictable, turning and twisting to places not even I could guess were coming.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Killer Within, and hope the author makes this book the first in a series of Allison McNeil books. Jeff Gunhus is a skilled storyteller, and although this is the first book that I have read by this author, it will certainly not be my last. As a matter of fact, I have already read the first in his YA series Jack Templar, Monster Hunter, and will be writing my review on that book shortly, plus I just bought another of his books, "Night Chill," on Amazon, and am looking forward to reading it very soon!

I highly recommend checking out Killer Within. Something I read that intrigued me before I read the book, "Iserial killers, psychological suspense and a strong female protagonist is your cup of tea, then Killer Within might (WILL!!!) be a great fit!"  I totally agree.

One other thing that I feel I have to mention... I read a lot of books. Some I review, some I do not, I get many for free and I also buy many of my own. I read a lot of ebooks mostly, and (don't get me wrong) I enjoy them, but there is just something to be said for having a real, physical copy of a book. A page turner. Not just words on an electric device. I have to thank the author for supplying me with physical copy of the book. I am not sure why it mattered to me so much, I would have liked Killer Within if I read it on my phone, tablet or computer, but there really is nothing like going old school sometimes.

So, THANK YOU Mr. Gunhus, for sending me this remarkable book. I hope to read many more books your write in the future.

I received this product free in exchange for my unbiased, honest review. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.
